I've decided that I'm gonna go and make this stuff mostly friends-only. If you really want to see my pics and thoughts, just drop me a message letting me know. I would especially love to hear your thoughts about religion, god, philosophy, science, health and ethics, or just about yourself.

I work in healthcare. Medicare pays me indirectly to care for one facet of the very sick and dying of the area. The job is a real trip because it combines a lot of careful rational thinking and decision making with the little idiosyncrasies of humanness.. its hard to describe, but as someone who takes the sciences seriously it is funny for me to observe how real care deviates from textbook perfect care in the individual, and thus in the chaotic reality of the clinic on the whole. Everyone has their own hunches, first fix-it ideas, and there are gray areas where neither party is obviously providing inferior care, but one of the little idiosyncrasies that does bug me a lot is superstition. I can't say I've witnessed dumb superstition hurt anyone yet, although it seems to me to have the potential. I work with some nocturnal techs for a few overlapping hours at night or in the mornings who swear that full moons bring extra hassle filled nights... I guess through gravity? I worked this last friday the 13th for 9 long hours and it was actually an unusually quiet pleasant night. OOOh isn't that just like creepy friday the 13th to be all unexpected-like?! I repeatedly pointed out that no one would remember in the future how quiet that fri/13th was but if the day had been horrible, like it is about 60% of the time on average anyways, everyone would be elevating it to evidence of some supernatural cycling of energies uniquely harmonizing with our dialysis facility.
Do you work in healthcare?
Are you superstitious?
